Before every men's fragrance smelled "aquatic", there was Cool Water. Pierre Bourdon's 1988 original is still the benchmark: a cold snap of mint, lavender and sea-spray freshness over a quietly masculine base of musk, oakmoss and a hint of tobacco.

It's an easy recommendation — inoffensive in the best way, brilliant in warm weather, and at this price you can spray it like it's free. Longevity is moderate (7/10 on our scale, think 4–6 hours), so the 125ml or 200ml is the sensible buy if it's going in your daily rotation.

One for gym bags, work mornings and anyone who wants to smell clean without thinking too hard about it. New, sealed and 100% genuine — the 125ml is roughly half what you'd pay on the high street.
